It depicts U.S. Army’s 1st Infantry Division soldiers disembarking from an LCVP (Landing Craft, Vehicle, Personnel) from the U.S. Coast Guard-crewed USS Samuel Chase at Omaha Beach during the Normandy Landings in World War II. Originally developed as a proofing system for the traditional lithograph, the superior quality and brilliance of the giclee was soon realized. This is why giclee, dye sublimation and similar processes have become the gold standard of photographic production in the 21st century, and are employed by the majority of today’s reputible photograpic and printhouse developers.
