Original Victorian chromolithograph titled The Jungfrau from near Interlaken, printed circa 1880. A dramatic Alpine view of the Jungfrau summit rising above a glacier basin in the Bernese Oberland of Switzerland, with the Silberhorn peak at right, storm clouds overhead, and evergreens in the rocky foreground.
Handsome cabinet card by Jean Geiser: man, Kabyle, albumen photo c. 1880
His simple cloth tunic and hood speak to traditional Berber dress, while his direct stare challenges colonial photographic conventions of the era. It is in excellent overall condition with minor surface imperfections, marks, and scratches.

Created around 1880 in French Algeria, the picture is a compelling example of Geiser’s work. The close-up format allows for a more personal encounter and creates a detailed portrait of this youth, who is known to have posed for at least one other picture.
