I was actually walking towards to beach to shoot a different subject, when I heard a group of howler monkeys close by. The sun was setting and as it cooled down for the night, six or seven of the monkeys came down from the canopy to eat the mangos that were up for the taking.

White-faced Capuchins playing together
These are a pair of Panamanian White-Faced Capuchin Monkeys playing together on a cool shaded afternoon in April. I came across a colony in Costa Rica and the whole of them were constantly moving. I only managed to get this shot with a heavy burst mode and fast shutter speed. They were absolutely having a blast!
Northern Tamandua Anteater Hunting

Sandpiper playing with the tide
As the tide was going out early in the morning, this adult sandpiper was dancing with the waves coming in and out, occasionally eating the tiny critters that washed in.
White Winged Dove
I was getting ready for the day when I was visited by this White Winged Dove. She let me get two shots of her before taking off. What a surprise!
Blue Capped Motmot 2

Squadron of Pelicans gathering on a rock
As the sun was setting, a mass of large birds appeared outside a cove in Costa Rica. As the sun grew lower and lower, they began to descend upon a series of rocks to rest. This is a picture of the nightly gathering.
American Avocet on the hunt
On a cloudy day in April, several American Avocets landed in a reservoir to hunt for the afternoon. I waited a couple hours for one to get close enough to photograph, and finally this guy walked over towards me all by himself.
